Why are we eco?
We realize that being 100% ‘eco’ is impossible. ViaVia Cafe limits its impact on the environment by:
- Using solar power to heat the water for the kitchen and hotel.
- All hotel rooms have double glazing in the original 1940’s windows, to insulate and avoid loss of heat.
- We actively manage waste en recycle where possible.
- The kitchen waste water is filtered in a 4 m3 degreasing chamber.
- We selected our garden plants, they use a minimum of water.
- We encourage visitors to park their cars in the center and use the public elevator.
Why are we sustainable?
Besides our ecological aims we want to have a positive impact on our neighbourhood and Valparaiso and include social profit in our business philosophy:
We restored the orginal Art Deco building recycling the original materials such as adobe, (recycled) wood, window frames.
We think in business profit, social profit and want to contribute to sustainable touristic development.
We work with local (small) providers wherever possible.
We want to inspire our neighbours by localy pioneering with an ecological hotel and restaurant set up.
ViaViaCafé monitors its employees skills and knowledge. We support with extra training and incentives in salaries. We pay our employees a fair salary.
